LORD — HELP US TO SAY YES

To say Yes to the Lord —

this is the greatest question.

 

Holy Mary,

Mother of Light,

teach us to say Yes.

 

There is an ancient thirst within us:

the need to love.

It is our conscience calling,

it is the heart crying

for the Love of God —

 

while the world loses itself

in the glitter of gold,

in the restless pursuit

of pleasure and desire.

 

“I am I and my circumstance,”

said José Ortega y Gasset.

But I tell you:

I am I —

and God is my circumstance.

 

To love is also to suffer,

and in suffering, to learn love.

 

There is intelligence in abundance,

but little moral wisdom.

O Mother, guide our minds to the Light,

to the highest reason —

Love itself.

 

“Love — and do as you wish,”

taught Saint Augustine —

but under the watchful care of the Creator.

 

I am not a shadow:

I am a being,

woven of meaning.

 

Who clothes the lilies of the field?

Who guides the flight of the birds in the sky?

 

Let the heart be our compass,

and Love our direction.

 

May the Love of Christ ease us

from the deepest pain —

the silent ache within the soul.
